SPIN STRONG WAS INVENTED AND FOUNDED BY PHIL DAVIES, WHO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH PARKINSON’S DISEASE IN 2009

Phil has always been a full-body fitness enthusiast, swimming year round during his early years and lifting weights, running and biking his entire adult life. Since regular vigorous exercise is one of the most important ways to slow the progression of Parkinson’s Disease, Phil has become even more passionate about fitness training.

Phil has been inventing full-body exercise products for over twenty five years and has three such patents. He created Spin Strong to help not only fitness enthusiasts, but fitness newbies and those who are movement challenged. Spin Strong was invented by redesigning Phil’s prior spin trainer. That one, like every other spin trainer invention before it, worked by rotating a mass and using basically weight resistance. The problem with that approach is it doesn’t provide enough resistance, even for people with movement issues. Knowing that a spin trainer with enough resistance would be a solution for a large number of people, Phil restarted the inventive process.

WITH A FRESH PERSPECTIVE, PHIL DISCOVERED THE MISSING ELEMENT - AIR RESISTANCE 

After the fact, it might seem obvious, but it eluded inventors for 80 plus years. A jump rope works mainly from air resistance (you can actually hear it whipping through the air). And air resistance is the result of area times speed of moving through air, which a jump rope does very fast. In spite of this fact, all previous spin trainer patents overlooked air resistance, probably because a jump rope is so narrow.

 Spin Strong’s air resistance approach allows a high level of resistance and is attained by using at least moderately fast spin speed. Spin Strong provides the correct level of resistance to perform jump rope exercise. When used with outstretched arms or arms at shoulder height or above, it provides much higher resistance due to arm leverage that intensifies the resistance and is great for strength training, as well as for full-body training.

SINCE TRAINING WITH SPIN STRONG, PHIL HAS SEEN BIG IMPROVEMENTS IN HIS STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE

For instance, landscaping and specifically hedge trimming are things he has always enjoyed doing, but due to his disease could only be done for a half hour at a time. After training with the prototypes of Spin Strong, Phil could trim hedges for hours at a time. The difference was huge - and Phil had been lifting weights the whole time. Phil also saw major strength and endurance improvements in boxing a heavy punching bag.

Phil continues his battle against the progression of Parkinson’s, and is having good success thanks to his fitness training including regular workouts with Spin Strong.
